Fitzroy Beach, New Plymouth
Fitzroy Beach is New Plymouth’s main surf, sand and sun spot. You can stroll through the shallows while the sun sets, watch the kids making sandcastles, enjoy a picnic lunch with a great view or check out the many surfers and windsurfers.
Coastal Walkway, Fitzroy Beach, New Plymouth
Fitzroy Beach’s black-iron sands are just one of the features of the seven-kilometre New Plymouth Coastal Walkway. This award-winning walkway runs from Port Taranaki to the Waiwhakaiho River mouth, and takes walkers past several beaches, playgrounds, stone sculptures and the 45 metre kinetic Wind Wand. A mobility Scooters is available for hire from the office, so those less physically fit are still able to enjoy this brilliant walkway.
New Extention of the Walkway, gives you more to explore while you wander along the coast, including the Te Rewa Rewa bridge.
New Plymouth Surfing…
New Plymouth is a magnet for surfers, who come from all over New Zealand to ride waves along the Surf Highway – a 100 kilometre road, following the coast, that takes in every awesome surfing spot and type of swell, from New Plymouth’s popular Fitzroy Beach to Hawera. Taranaki is definitely one of New Zealand’s most consistent surf destinations.
Surfing lessons are available in New Plymouth and this region is the perfect place to experience your first surfing thrill!
